Dallas Cowboys (8-7) vs. New York Giants (8-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Sunday 1 January 2012 at 1:26 am

This is a do or die game.  The winner is the NFC East Champ and the loser goes home.  The Cowboys have lost three of their last four games, including a 37-34 loss to the Giants just three weeks ago.  The Giants have won two of their last three games.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys know that they are likely going to have to score a lot of points to beat the Giants tomorrow night.  They say that Tony Romo is going to start with his badly bruised right hand.  The Cowboys’ O-Line is going to have to protect Romo well in this game because the Giants are without a doubt going to be coming after his hand.  DE Jason Pierre-Paul (15.5 sacks) and the Giants (42 sacks this year) love to bring the heat on QBs.  Romo is going to have to make quick decisions in this game and the passing game will likely be of the shorter variety.  That means that Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, Laurent Robinson and Miles Austin will have to get a lot of yards after the catch.  If Felix Jones is ready to go in this game, he could make a big difference on the ground for the Cowboys.

When the Giants have the ball:  The Giants will probably try for a more balanced attack than the first time they played the Cowboys.  Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs will be attacking a Cowboys’ D that is allowing 98.6 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry.  The Cowboys will be coming after Eli Manning with DeMarcus Ware (18 sacks)  and the rest of the D, as they can rattle him and force him into mistakes if they hit him early and hard in this game.  That being said, Manning has two of the better playmakers at WR in the NFL in Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.

PREDICTION:  GIANTS 34, COWBOYS 23

Dallas Cowboys (8-6) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (6-8)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 24 December 2011 at 3:25 pm

The Cowboys need to step up and play a good game against a decent team today if they want to make the playoffs.  The Cowboys are 1 game ahead of the Giants and 2 games ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East…..so they need this game.  The Eagles thrashed the Cowboys 34-7 in Philly earlier this year.  The Eagles have won two games in a row by a combined score of 71-29!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are likely going to come out throwing the ball with RB Felix Jones gimpy.  The O-Line is going to have their hands full with the Eagles’ pass rush as they already have 46 sacks so far this year.  If Tony Romo has time to throw the ball today, he is going to be effective as Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Laurent Robinson and Jason Witten give him a lot of lethal targets in the passing game.  RB Sammy Morris will try to give the Cowboys some balance on offense today.

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are likely going to come out running the ball with Lesean McCoy shouldering most of the load.  Michael Vick is going to be opertating out of the pocket for the most part today, with his ribs still barking.  The Cowboys will try to contain him, while bringing a lot of heat on the pass rush.  The safeties are likely going to have issues with TE Brent Celek who has really stepped up lately for the Eagles.  Jeremy Maclin and Desean Jackson will challenge the Cowboys’ secondary down the field today.

PREDICTION:  EAGLES 27, COWBOYS 23

Dallas Cowboys 31, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 15

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Sunday 18 December 2011 at 1:37 pm

The Cowboys busted up the Buccaneers last night in Tampa.  The Cowboys were up 28-0 at the half and had this game when in hand throughout.  Tony Romo was excellent last night as he completed 23 of 30 passes for 249 yards with 3 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Romo also carried the ball 3 times for -1 yard (-0.3 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also lost a fumble that was returned 4 yards for a TD by LB Dekoda Watson.  Felix Jones led the way for the Cowboys on the ground last night and he rushed for 108 yards on 22 carries (4.9 ypc).  He also caught 3 passes for 23 yards (7.7 avg) last night.  Sammy Morris got into his first game of the year last night for the Cowboys and he looked good.  Morris carried the ball 12 times for 53 yards (4.4 ypc) in this game.  TE Jason Witten (4 rec, 77 yards), WR Miles Austin (5 rec, 53 yards, TD), WR Dez Bryant (4 rec, 40 yards, TD) and WR Laurent Robinson (3 rec, 29 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game last night.  The Cowboys finished up with 160 yards rushing on 37 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 30 passes (76.7%) for 239 yards as they had possession of the ball for 37:59.

The defense was dominating for the Cowboys last night.  CB Orlando Scandrick  (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 QB hit and 1 sack) and OLB Anthony Spencer (5 tackles and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Cowboys’ D last night.  LB Bradie James pitched in with a fumble recovery.  The Buccaneers finished up with only 58 yards rushing on 13 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 27 passes for 132 yards.  The Cowboys are now 8-6 on the season.

Dallas Cowboys (7-5) vs. New York Giants (6-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 9 December 2011 at 8:55 pm

The Dallas Cowboys are 5-1 this season at home, so they come into this game pretty confident.  But, the Cowboys are only 1-3 against teams with winning records this year as they have been cleaning up on bad teams.  The Giants have lost four games in a row, but three of them came against division leading teams (Saints, Packers and 49ers).  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are likely going to try to get rookie RB DeMarco Murray going against a Giants’ D that is allowing 127.0 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry so far this year.  The Cowboys’ O-Line is going to have to step up as the Giants have one of the best pass rushing D-Lines in the league.  If Romo doesn’t have time to throw the ball, he gets jittery.  Plus, he hasn’t been the most clutch QB around late in the season.  The Giants are giving up 260.3 yards passing per game this year, so Romo could have a decent game if his head is on straight.  TE Jason Witten and WRs Miles Austin, Laurent Robinson and Dez Bryant could all have big games if things work out o.k. on Sunday Night.

When the Giants have the ball:  The Cowboys are going to have to get after Giants’ QB Eli Manning.  If Manning has time to throw the ball, he could have a big time game against a Cowboys’ secondary that is giving up 230.2 yards passing per game so far this year.  WRs Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham and TE Jake Ballard give Manning the weapons he needs to fight fire with fire this Sunday.  The Cowboys’ front seven will also have their hands full with RBs Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw.

PREDICTION:  GIANTS 30, COWBOYS 27

Dallas Cowboys (7-4) vs. Arizona Cardinals (4-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 3 December 2011 at 8:04 pm

The Cowboys have won four games in a row (against bad football teams), and they will look to make it a fifth this weekend in Arizona.  The Cardinals are suddenly hot as they have won 3 of their last four games (but 2 were against the Rams).  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are so much better now that the offense is balancing a lot more.  A lot of that credit should go to rookie RB DeMarco Murray, as he is playing great right now.  The Cardinals are giving up 123.5 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry, so Murray could be in line for a big game.  Tony Romo has benefitted from the Cowboys’ newly found success running the ball, as he has had much more time to throw lately.  TE Jason Witten and WRs Dez Bryant and Laurent Robinson are in line for good games this weekend for the Cowboys.

When the Cardinals have the ball:  The Cowboys might have some problems stopping the suddenly balanced offense of the Cardinals.  Beanie Wells is in a good groove, so the Cowboys’ front seven is going to be challenged all day by him tomorrow.  Kevin Kolb is going to be back at QB after missing some time with turf toe.  The Cowboys hope that he’s a tad rusty and they are going to be blitzing him left and right.  If Kolb has time to throw the ball, the Cowboys could be in some trouble as WR Larry Fitzgerald is one of the best playmakers in the NFL.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 27, CARDINALS 24

Dallas Cowboys vs. Miami Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 2:47 pm

The Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins both enter this game on three game winning streaks.  The Cowboys have outscored their opponents 94-44 during their winning streak and the Dolphins have outscored their last three opponents 86-20!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are going to stay balanced offensively today as it has really been working well.  DeMarco Murray will have to work hard for every yard he gets as the Dolphins are giving up only 98.7 yards rushing per game this year and only 3.7 yards per carry.  Romo has been deadly off play action passes to Jason Witten, Laurent Robinson and Dez Bryant.  The Dolphins are giving up 251.3 yards passing per game so far this year, so I expect Romo to have a good day.

When the Dolphins have the ball:  The Dolphins run a balanced offense, so the front seven is going to have to handle stopping Reggie Bush and Donald Thomas’  running.  If the Cowboys can stop the Dolphins’ rushing attack, they will have a good shot of slowing down QB Matt Moore, as he has been red hot throwing the ball as of late.  The Cowboys will likely double WR Brandon Marshall and force Moore to beat them by throwing to someone else.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 23, DOLPHINS 20

Dallas Cowboys (5-4) vs. Washington Redskins (3-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 4:54 pm

The Dallas Cowboys are back on the right track as they have won two games in a row by a combined score of 67-20!  They also beat the Redskins 18-16 earlier this year in Dallas, when the Redskins were healthy and playing a lot better than they are right now.  The Redskins have lost five games in a row, in which they have been outscored 115-53!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Dallas Cowboys weren’t using DeMarco Murray much when these teams first player each other.  This time around, Murray is going to get a lot of carries against a Redskins’ D that is giving up 120.4 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry so far this year.  The Redskins have 27 sacks already this year, so the Cowboys’ O-Line is going to get tested on passing downs this Sunday.  If Romo has time to throw the ball, he’s likely going to have a lot of success tossing it to TE Jason Witten and WRs Dez Bryant and Laurent Robinson.

When the Redskins have the ball:  The Redskins need to get back to being more balanced on offense this weekend, and that means they will try to run the ball a bit more than they have been.  Roy Helu and Ryan Torain don’t scare the Cowboys’ D much.  But, Tashard Choice might be active tomorrow and he’s going to want to stick it to his old team.  OLB DeMarcus Ware might have a great game this Sunday as the Redskins’ O-Line has been depleted due to injuries and they have already allowed 27 sacks this year.  Rex Grossman is interception prone and his WRs and TEs scare no one.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 27, REDSKINS 10

Dallas Cowboys (4-4) vs. Buffalo Bills (5-3)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 11 November 2011 at 5:52 pm

The Dallas Cowboys have beaten the teams they should, but they have not played well enough to beat the good teams on the schedule (except the 49ers).  The Bills have lost 2 of their last three games, and it’s not quite known yet if they are a good team or one playing over their heads.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are going to unleash RB DeMarco Murray on the Bills this Sunday and they are giving up 120.8 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  The Cowboys won’t shy away from throwing the ball this weekend either.  The Bills got 10 sacks against the woeful Redskins, but only five in the other 7 games they have played.  With that in mind, Tony Romo should have a lot of time to throw the ball.  The Bills have 15 interceptions this year, so Romo will still have to be careful with the ball this Sunday.  Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and Laurent Robinson could all have big games this Sunday.

When the Bills have the ball:  The Bills are going to try to run the ball a lot with Fred Jackson, so that is going to challenge the Cowboys’ front seven, big time.  The Cowboys are going to be sending OLB DeMarcus Ware (12 sacks) and his partners on D after Bills’ QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.  It might be hard getting to him as the Bills have only allowed 9 sacks this year.  Fitzpatrick has some pretty nice targets in Steve Johnson, David Nelson, Fred Jackson and Scott Chandler….so the Cowboys’ secondary better be ready for a challenge.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 30, BILLS 27

Dallas Cowboys (3-4) vs. Seattle Seahawks (2-5)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 3 November 2011 at 4:59 pm

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a game in which they were soundly thrashed 34-7 on the road by the Eagles.  The Seahawks have lost two games in a row by a combined score of 40-15!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are going to get back to throwing the ball this weekend.  The Seahawks are giving up 237.1 yards passing per game so far this year, and they don’t have much of a pass rush.  That means that Tony Romo should have time to survey the field and take advantage of mis-matches.  Most of those will involve WRs Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Laurent Robinson as the Seahawks’ weakness on D is the play of their corners.  This might be the week that TE Jason Witten isn’t Romo’s top target in the passing game, as safeties Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas are the Seahawks best players in the secondary.  RB DeMarco Murray will likely have to fight for every yard he gets as the Seahawks are only allowing 3.2 yards per carry so far this year.

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The front seven should be able to handle Seahawks’ RB Marshawn Lynch, as he is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry.  The Seahawks’ offensive line has given up 28 sacks already this year, so look for OLB DeMarcus Ware (12 sacks) and the rest of the D to be blitzing Seahawks’ QB Tarvaris Jackson like crazy.  The Cowboys’ corners are going to need to play tight coverage on WRs Ben Obomanu, Doug Baldwin and Sidney Rice as the Seahawks are likely to throw a lot of quick hitters to try to slow the Cowboys pass rush a bit.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 31, SEAHAWKS 13

Dallas Cowboys (3-3) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 29 October 2011 at 10:13 pm

This is likely going to be an outstanding football game this Sunday Night in Philly.  The Cowboys are coming off a nice 34-7 home win against the hapless Rams, while the Eagles had a bye last week to lick their wounds.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are likely going to take direct aim at the Eagles’ poor run defensing front seven tomorrow night.  The Eagles are giving up 123.8 yards rushing per game and 4.8 yards per carry.  Rookie RB DeMarco Murray will try to build off his breakout game last weekend (25 carries for 253 yards) and he’s the kind of tough back the Eagles are having big time problems with.  If the Eagles creep up to stop Murray, look for Tony Romo to attack them down the field off of play action.  The corners of the Eagles are not living up to the hype this year, so if Romo has time to throw the ball, he’s going to make some plays with his arm.  Jason Witten, Dez Bryant and Miles Austin are going to be in attack mode tomorrow night.

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles’ offense has been excellent this year.  A big reason for that is the running of Lesean McCoy and Michael Vick.  The Cowboys have an outstanding run D, as they are allowing only 69.7 yards rushing per game and 3.3 yards per carry so far this year….so something has to give tomorrow night.  OLBs DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer (11 sacks between them) will be rushing Vick from the edges, while also trying to contain him in the pocket, where he is much less effective.  That being said, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant and DeSean Jackson  give him a nice set of weapons to throw to.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 30, EAGLES 27
