The Dallas Cowboys lose starting LG Bill Nagy for the rest of the season

The Cowboys have lost 23-year old rookie, starting left guard Bill Nagy for the rest of the 2011 season due to a broken right ankle.  Nagy played in 4 games (all starts) for the Cowboys in his rookie season.  22-year old undrafted rookie Kevin Kowalski out of Toledo is Nagy’s likely replacement unless the Cowboys sign or deal for another guard before this weekend’s game at home against the Rams.

The Dallas Cowboys lose WR Miles Austin for a while

The Cowboys will likely be without starting WR Miles Austin until week #6, due to a serious hamstring injury.  Austin has played in both games for the Cowboys so far this year and he has caught 14 passes for 233 yards (16.6 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  The Cowboys are likely going to look to TE Jason Witten and WR Dez Bryant a lot more until Austin is ready to return to action.  The Cowboys will also need 27-year old WR Jesse Holley and 24-year old WR Kevin Ogletree to step up while  Austin is out of action.  Holley (3 rec, 96 yards, 32.0 avg) and Kevin Ogletree (4 rec, 62 yards, 15.5 avg) have played well so far this year and the Cowboys hope they keep up the good work.

The Dallas Cowboys lose CB Orlando Scandrick

The Cowboys have lost 24-year old cornerback Orlando Scandrick for the next 3-4 weeks due to a high ankle sprain.  He played against the Jets last night and he had 1 tackle.  Scandrick has now played in 49 games in his first four years with the Cowboys and he has 134 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 2 interceptions (1 returned for a TD), 22 passes defensed and 6 tackles for a loss.  The Cowboys are now paper thin at corner, so they need Scandrick to heal up quickly.

The Cowboys have placed rookie 24-year old WR Raymond Radway on the Injured Reserve List due to a fractured left tibia and fibula.  He was injured in the preseason finale earlier in the week.  Radway caught 6 passes for 91 yards (15.2 avg) and he returned 4 kickoffs for 98 yards (24.5 avg) during the preseason.  The undrafted rookie out of Abilene Christian will get another shot to make the Cowboys’ roster in 2012.

The Dallas Cowboys lose TE Martellus Bennett for a while

The Dallas Cowboys have lost 24-year old TE Martellus Bennett for the next 2-4 weeks due to a right high ankle sprain.  Bennett played in 16 games (12 starts) for the Cowboys last year and he caught 33 passes for 260 yards (7.9 avg).  He has now played in 46 games (25 starts) for the Cowboys in his first three years with the team and he has caught 68 passes for 702 yards (10.3 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  The Cowboys are going to miss Bennett while he is out of action as he is a pretty good backup TE.

The Dallas Cowboys lose CB Terence Newman for a while

The Cowboys will be without starting CB Terence Nemman for the next 4-6 weeks due to him suffering a groin injury in yesterday’s practice.  Newman played in all 16 games for the Cowboys last year and he had 79 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 fumble recovery, 9 passes defensed and 5 interceptions.  The Cowboys hope to have Newman back before the season opener on September 11th against the Jets.

The Cowboys have placed 27-year old linebacker Leon Williams on Injured Reserve ending his season due to a hamstring injury.  Williams played in 11 games for the Cowboys this year and he had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery.  Williams has now played in 57 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 172 tackles, 5 passes defensed, 5 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  The Cowboys won’t miss Williams against the Eagles this Sunday.

Jon Kitna’s season is over for the Dallas Cowboys

38-year old QB Jon Kitna injured an oblique muscle Saturday Night against the Cardinals and it will cause him to miss the season finale in Philly against the Eagles.  Kitna played in 10 games for the Cowboys this year and he completed 209 of 318 passes (65.7%) for 2,365 yards with 16 TD passes and 12 INTs (88.9 QB Rating).  Kitna also carried the ball 31 times for 147 yards (4.7 ypc) with a TD run this year.  Kitna proved to still have a lot left in the gas tank and the Cowboys should keep him as Tony Romo’s backup going forward if all possible.

The Cowboys have finally put 30-year old QB Tony Romo on the Injured Reserve List due to his broken collarbone.  Romo played in 6 games for the Cowboys this year and he completed 148 of 213 passes (69.5%) for 1,605 yards with 11 TD passes and 7 INTs (94.9 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 6 times for 38 yards (6.3 ypc) this year.  Romo has now played in 83 games in his first six years with the Cowboys and he has completed 1,326 of 2,070 passes (64.1%) for 16,650 yards with 118 TD passes and 62 INTs (95.5  QB Rating).  Romo has also carried the ball 136 times for 413 yards (3.0 ypc) with 3 TD runs in his career so far.  The Cowboys were smart to shut down Romo because they aren’t going anywhere this year anyway.

The Cowboys have lost 23-year old WR Kevin Ogletree for the rest of the season as he needs surgery on a toe on his right foot.  Ogletree played in 6 games for the Cowboys this year and he caught 3 passes for 34 yards (11.3 avg).  Ogletree also returned 6 kickoffs for 109 yards (18.2 avg) this year for the Cowboys.  Ogletree has now played in 17 games in his first two years with the Cowboys and he has caught 10 passes for 130 yards (13.0 avg).  He has also returned 14 kickoffs for 275 yards (19.6 avg) in his first two years with the Cowboys.  This is a bad break for Ogletree as he was in line to see a bump in P.T.
