The Dallas Cowboys will be without OT Sam Young for a while

The Cowboys will be without rookie OT Sam Young out of Notre Dame for the next 3-4 weeks due to a sprained MCL.  He played in the first 3 pre-season games for the Cowboys.  This will hurt the Cowboys a little bit as they are hurting depth wise along the offensive line.

The Dallas Cowboys lose two key defensive players for the rest of the pre-season

The Cowboys will be without 27-year old strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh and 34-year old inside linebacker Keith Brooking for the next three weeks.  Sensabaugh temporarily dislocated his left shoulder over the weekend while Brooking has a mild sprain of the AC joint in his right shoulder.  Sensabaugh played in the first 3 pre-season games for the Cowboys and he had 3 tackles.  In his first season with the Cowboys in 2009, Sensabaugh played in 15 games (all starts) and he finished up with 66 tackles, 8 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Brooking also played in the first three pre-season games for the Cowboys and he had 5 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  Last year was also Brooking’s first with the Cowboys.  He played in 16 games (14 starts) for the Cowboys last season and he had 106 tackles, 3 sacks and he defensed 7 passes.  Brooking and Sensabaugh are really important to the Cowboys’ run defense so they hope both of them will be ready for the season opener against the Redskins.

The Dallas Cowboys lose starting left guard Kyle Kosier for a while

The Cowboys will be without starting LG Kyle Kosier for the next 4-6 weeks due to a sprained MCL.  This is a pretty big blow for the Cowboys who are already without RT Mark Columbo.  Kosier has started 51 games in 4 years with the Cowboys including all 16 in 2009.  30-year old Montrae Holland will likely replace Kosier until he’s ready to return to action.  Holland did not get into any games last season for the Cowboys.  He has played in 7 games (2 starts) in his two years in Dallas.  Holland has played in 75 games (48 starts) in his 7 years in the NFL.  I have a feeling that Holland will do a decent job while Kosier is out of action but it will still be a dropoff for the Cowboys’ O-Line.

The Dallas Cowboys lose Marc Colombo

The Cowboys will be without starting right tackle Marc Colombo for the next 2-4 weeks.  He had his knee scoped on Sunday.  The Cowboys will replace Colombo at RT with Alex Barron until he’s ready to return to action.  This is not a big dropoff especially in the passing game but the Cowboys still hope Colombo is ready when the regular season begins.

The Dallas Cowboys had two significant injuries last night

TE John Phillips has a possible ACL tear which would cause him to miss the entire season.  That would be a shame as he looked good last night catching 4 passes for 60 yards (15.0 avg) before his injury.  KR/PR Titus Ryan fractured his left thumb last night.  He was likely going to return both kickoffs and punts for the Cowboys this year.  He returned 1 kickoff for 38 yards and 1 punt for 1 yard.  These injuries are both bad breaks for the Cowboys but they can replace those guys.
