Dallas Cowboys 7, Green Bay Packers 17

In what I thought would be an offensive shootout between the Dallas Cowboys (6-3) and Green Bay Packers (5-4) turned into an ugly defensive game.  The Cowboys were only able to put up 7 points after averaging nearly 32 points a game in their past three.  Turnovers were the main problem, as Tony Romo had an interception and lost a fumble.  Roy Williams also had a fumble and a key drop.  Williams put up some big numbers for the Cowboys though, catching 5 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.  Romo finished with 241 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception on 24/39 pass attempts.  The running game struggled to get much of anything going, finishing the game with 61 yards as a team.  The Cowboys offense just did not look very sharp in this one and even kicker Nick Folk missed a 36-yard field goal.

The Cowboys defense played pretty well in this one, but they just did not get enough support from their offense.  They held Aaron Rodgers under 200 yards passing, as he finished with 189 yards.  He did have a touchdown pass though and no interceptions, and completed 25/36 passes.  They gave up 105 yards on the ground, but nothing longer than a 13 yard run by Ryan Grant.  DaMarcus Ware was able to sack Rodgers twice, and had 5 tackles.  They sacked Rodgers 4 times, but the Packers defense was able to sack Romo 5 times.  I was expecting a much better performance from the Cowboys’ offense and they will need to bounce back next week against the Redskins who just beat the Broncos.

Dallas Cowboys 20, Philadelphia Eagles 16

The Dallas Cowboys (6-2) got revenge against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.  They beat the Eagles who ended their playoff hopes last season in 44-6 rout.  This game was much closer and Tony Romo was able to get the job done.  He found his favorite target Miles Austin only once in this game, but once was more than enough as it was a 49-yard touchdown to put the Cowboys ahead for good in the 4th quarter.  Austin continues to stun defenses and now has 7 touchdowns on the year (six in the last four games) and leads the NFL with a 22.7 yards per catch average.  The Cowboys running game only got 76 yards as a team, but they were very effective.  Tashard Choice and Marion Barber combined for 63 yards on 15 carries ( 4.2 avg), with Choice adding a touchdown as well.

The Cowboys defense had a great all-around game.  They intercepted Donovan McNabb twice, and held him to one touchdown and 227 yards on 16/30 attempts.  This was the first time since last season that McNabb has had a multi-interception game.  They also only gave up 89 rushing yards, holding the Eagles to 297 total yards compared to the Cowboys 358 total yards.  They shut down the dangerous receiver DeSean Jackson, who has been making huge plays all year with six touchdowns all over 50 yards.  The Cowboys have been playing very well and things are starting to really click.  If they can keep up this type of play they can make a deep run in the playoffs and possibly get themselves into the Super Bowl.

Dallas Cowboys 38, Seattle Seahawks 17

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys  (5-2) offense looked very good for the third straight week as they crushed the Seattle Seahawks (2-5) on Sunday.  Romo did not throw and interception and finished the game with three touchdowns and 256 yards on 21/36 attempts.  He did lose a fumble though, so it wasn’t a turnover free day for Romo.  The Cowboys running attack was very effective against the Seahawks, with Marion Barber and Felix Jones combining for 92 yards on 22 carries (4.2 avg).  They also got 32 more yards from Tashard Choice, Tony Romo, and Miles Austin.  Austin continued his great wide-receiver play, leading the team with five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.  He did make his first mistake of the season, fumbling on an end-around, but he recovered it himself.

The Cowboys defense did a great job making sure the Seahawks could not keep up with the Cowboys high scoring offense.  They forced two fumbles and sacked Seahawks’ quarterback Matt Hasselbeck three times. Terence Newman and Bradie James forced the fumbles and Victor Butler and Orland Scandrick recovered them.  The Cowboys also got a huge play from their special teams, when Patrick Crayton returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown to put the Cowboys up 35-10 going into the 4th quarter.  This was a good all-around game for the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys 37, Atlanta Falcons 21

After a slow start in the first quarter where quarterback Tony Romo has zero passing yards, the Dallas Cowboys’ (4-2) offense exploded and easily defeated a good Atlanta Falcons (4-2) team.  Romo has found his new favorite target, as reciever Miles Austin proved his first start last game, where he had 250 receiving yards and two touchdowns, was not luck.  In his second career start Sunday, Austin caught six passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns.  That is 421 yards on 16 catches and four touchdowns in two starts for the undrafted fourth year player from Monmouth College.  Those are incredible stats for any receiver, let alone a guy who before his big game against the Chiefs was mainly a special teams guy.  Romo did a good job finding Austin for some big plays, avoiding pressure and allowing the speedy receiver to get open down field.  Romo finished the game with three touchdowns and 311 yards on 21/29 passes and also had 31 yards rushing on six carries (5.2 avg).

The Cowboys defense had a pretty good game themselves.  The big offensive numbers overshadowed the defense, as they did a great job pressuring the Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan.  They sacked Ryan four times, which is great considering the QB was only sacked two times all season heading into this contest.  They forced him into two fumbles (recovered one) and picked him twice.  The fumble the Cowboys did recover off Ryan was huge since Romo came out the next play and hit Austin for a 22-yard touchdown.  The Cowboys got some more insurance in the 4th quarter when Patrick Crayton returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown.  This is exactly the type of game the Cowboys needed out of Romo, as it was a big, turnover free game for the inconsistent quarterback.  This should build his confidence, especially now that Miles Austin has proven he is one of the most dangerous receivers in the league.  The Cowboys are at home against the Seattle Seahawks next game.

Dallas Cowboys 26, Kansas City Chiefs 20 OT

The Dallas Cowboys (3-2) got a ridiculously good game from the undrafted receiver Miles Austin, who led the Cowboys to an overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs (0-5).  To say Austin had a breakout game would be putting it lightly to say the least, as the receiver had a franchise record 250 receiving yards.  Austin was filling in for the injured Roy Williams and had two touchdowns and ten catches for 250 yards (25 yard avg).  He could have had even more, as he dropped a touchdown in the first quarter.  Tony Romo finally broke out of his funk and did a great job finding the nearly unknown receiver, finishing with two touchdowns and 351 yards on 20/34 attempts (59%).

The Cowboys got a big game from their running backs as well.  Tashard Choice did a great job filling in for Felix Jones with a touchdown and 92 yards on only 8 carries (11.5 avg).  Marion Barber added 53 yards on 15 carries (3.5 avg).  The Cowboys still did not look very sharp at times though, despite the eye-popping statistics.  There were times were Romo and his receivers were out of synch with a few drops and and a few erratic throws.  Romo did not throw a pick though and got his first touchdown pass since week two.

The Cowboys defense did a great job stopping the run, holding the Chiefs’ Larry Johnson to 37 yards on 21 carries (1.8 avg).  They did not do a very good job with Matt Cassel and the Chiefs’ passing game though.  Cassel had two touchdowns with 253 yards on 23/41 attempts (56%).  Now those aren’t the best quarterback numbers, but the Cowboys defense let Cassel take the Chiefs to a 13-3 lead late in the 3rd quarter and then let him lead a game-tying drive late in the 4th quarter after the Cowboys had scored 17 straight points.  The Cowboys had a few big plays up their sleeve though, and Tony Romo found Miles Austin for a 60-yard touchdown in overtime to win the game.
