The Cowboys have signed 28-year old QB Brooks Bollinger to a 1-year contract to serve as the #3 QB behind Tony Romo and Brad Johnson.  Bollinger played in 5 games (1 start) for the Vikings last season and he completed 33 of 50 passes (66%) for 391 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception (88.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 5 times for 18 yards (3.6 ypc) last season.  This was a good move for the Cowboys who signed him on Monday before other teams found out how badly their QBs were hurt.  Bollinger has now played in 19 games (10 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 201 of 343 passes (58.6%) for 2,155 yards with 8 TD passes and 8 interceptions (75.2 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 41 times for 155 yards (3.8 ypc) in his career.

The Cowboys have signed safety Keith Davis after he was let go by the Dolphins.  Davis played in 3 preseason games for the Dolphins this year and he made 7 tackles.  The Cowboys welcome back Keith Davis who has played in 68 games for them in his NFL career compiling 132 tackles and defensing 5 passes.  The Cowboys will likely use Davis a lot on special teams where he is an ace.

The Cowboys have signed 34-year old inside linebacker Zach Thomas.  Thomas missed much of last season due to concussions but he played well when healthy which indicates that he still has some gas left in the tank.  Thomas played in 5 games last season for the Dolphins and he made 52 tackles, defensed 2 passes and had 1 sack.  Thomas has now played in 168 games in his NFL career and he has made 1,642 tackles, defensed 65 passes, forced 15 fumbles and intercepted 17 passes……four of which he returned for TDs.  This was a good move for the Cowboys who will likely start him at middle linebacker as long as he stays healthy.

The Dallas Cowboys have signed free agent NT Tank Johnson to a 2-year contract.  The Cowboys needed some help in the D-Line after losing starting NT Jason Ferguson for the season due to injury.  Johnson won’t be elgible to return to the NFL for six more weeks while he serves an NFL suspension for off field conduct.  He needs to behave and get in shape because the Cowboys need his help so they can make a deep run in the playoffs this season.  Johnson played in 14 games last season for the Bears and he made 26 tackles, had 3.5 sacks, defensed 1 pass and forced a fumble.  Johnson has now played in 46 games in his 3-year NFL career and he has made 63 tackles, 9 sacks, has defensed 4 passes and forced 1 fumble.  This was a god gamble by the Cowboys as they need help with their run defense.

The Cowboys have signed Brock Berlin to a contract to compete for the #3 QB job behind Tony Romo and Brad Johnson.  It’s likely that the Cowboys will draft a QB on Sunday to groom behind the two veterans they have on their roster.  If they don’t draft a QB, Berlin may have a chance to make the team.
