Philadelphia Eagles 34, Dallas Cowboys 7

The Dallas Cowboys got destroyed by the Eagles last night in every facet of the game.  Tony Romo was very ineffective in this game as he completed 18 of 35 passes for 203 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 1 time for 9 yards in this game.  DeMarco Murray carried the ball 8 times for 74 yards (9.3 ypc) but he was essentially taken out of the game plan when the Cowboys fell so far behind in the game.  WR Laurent Robinson led the way in the passing game for the Cowboys last night with 5 grabs for 103 yards (20.6 avg) with a 70-yard TD grab.  The Cowboys finished up with 85 yards on 10 carries (8.5 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 35 passes (51.4%) for 182 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 17:51.

The defense got destroyed by the Eagles’ offense yesterday.  You can’t blame OLB DeMarcus Ware for anything though as he had 10 tackles, 4 sacks, 5 tackles for a loss and 4 QB hits.  Safety Gerald Sensabaugh pitched in with 9 tackles in this game.  The Eagles finished up 239 yards rushing on 38 carries (6.3 ypc) and they completed 21 of 28 passes (75%) for 256 yards.  The Cowboys are now 3-4 on the year.

The Dallas Cowboys waive RB Tashard Choice

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 30 October 2011 at 12:47 pm

The Cowboys have waived 26-year old RB Tashard Choice.  Choice played in 6 games for the Cowboys this year and he carried the ball 28 times for 75 yards (2.7 ypc).  He also caught 11 passes for 71 yards (6.5 avg) this year for the Cowboys.  Choice played in 54 games in his four years with the Cowboys and he carried the ball 250 times for 1,139 yards rushing (4.6 ypc) with 8 TD grabs.  He also caught 64 passes for 497 yards (7.8 avg) for the Cowboys.  The emergence of DeMarco Murray and Phillip Tanner lead to Choice’s release.  Some team is definitely going to claim him off waivers and give him more of  a chance to play than the Cowboys did.

UPDATE:  (11/1/2011) – Tashard Choice has been claimed off waivers by the rival Washington Redskins.

Dallas Cowboys (3-3) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 29 October 2011 at 10:13 pm

This is likely going to be an outstanding football game this Sunday Night in Philly.  The Cowboys are coming off a nice 34-7 home win against the hapless Rams, while the Eagles had a bye last week to lick their wounds.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are likely going to take direct aim at the Eagles’ poor run defensing front seven tomorrow night.  The Eagles are giving up 123.8 yards rushing per game and 4.8 yards per carry.  Rookie RB DeMarco Murray will try to build off his breakout game last weekend (25 carries for 253 yards) and he’s the kind of tough back the Eagles are having big time problems with.  If the Eagles creep up to stop Murray, look for Tony Romo to attack them down the field off of play action.  The corners of the Eagles are not living up to the hype this year, so if Romo has time to throw the ball, he’s going to make some plays with his arm.  Jason Witten, Dez Bryant and Miles Austin are going to be in attack mode tomorrow night.

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles’ offense has been excellent this year.  A big reason for that is the running of Lesean McCoy and Michael Vick.  The Cowboys have an outstanding run D, as they are allowing only 69.7 yards rushing per game and 3.3 yards per carry so far this year….so something has to give tomorrow night.  OLBs DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer (11 sacks between them) will be rushing Vick from the edges, while also trying to contain him in the pocket, where he is much less effective.  That being said, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant and DeSean Jackson  give him a nice set of weapons to throw to.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 30, EAGLES 27

The Dallas Cowboys are getting good production from the WRs in 2011

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,Steppin Up by admin on Monday 24 October 2011 at 7:14 pm

Dez Bryant and Miles Austin have been banged up a little bit so far this year, but that has allowed the backups a chance to step up, and they have done so.  Bryant has caught 19 passes for 339 yards (17.8 avg) with 4 TD grabs so far this year, as he appears to be Tony Romo’s choice when driving the ball down the field.  Miles Austin has caught 23 passes for 323 yards (14.0 avg) with 4 TD grabs so far this year as he has played very well.  Laurent Robinson was cut and then re-signed when the Cowboys started having injuries.  He looks like a keeper as he has caught 14 passes for 233 yards (16.6 avg) so far in 2011.  Kevin Ogletree (9 rec, 106 yards, 11.7 avg) and Jesse Holley (3 rec, 96 yards, 32.0 avg) also have shown glimpses that they can make an impact when called upon by the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys 34, St. Louis Rams 7

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Cowboys Talk by admin on Monday 24 October 2011 at 4:39 pm

The Cowboys completely dominated the Rams yesterday.  Tony Romo just had to manage the game yesterday as he completed 14 of 24 passes for 166 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Rookie DeMarco Murray was amazing for the Cowboys yesterday as he set a new record for rushing yards in one game in franchise history!  Murray carried the ball 25 times for 253 yards (10.1 ypc) with a 91-yard TD scamper in the first quarter.  Phillip Tanner also pitched in with 34 yards rushing on six carries (5.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  WR Dez Bryant (5 rec, 90 yards, TD) and TE Jason Witten (5 rec, 35 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Cowboys yesterday.  The Cowboys finished up with 294 yards rushing on 34 carries (8.6 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 24 passes (58.3%) for 151 yards as they had possession of the ball for 33:56.

The defense was outstanding for the Cowboys yesterday.  Safety Abram Elam (8 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery and 1 forced fumble), CB Mike Jenkins (4 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 1 interception) and LB Bradie James (6 tackles) led the way for the Cowboys’ D yesterday.  The Rams finished up with 70 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 33 passes (60.6%) for 195 yards in this game.  The Cowboys are now 3-3 on the season.

Dallas Cowboys (2-3) vs. St. Louis Rams (0-5)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 22 October 2011 at 10:00 pm

The Cowboys have to be frustrated after losing last weekend at New England in the last minute of the game.  The Rams have been pathetic all year long and they will be without starting QB Sam Bradford in this game.  A.J. Feeley will be making his first start since 2007.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are going to come out passing in this game and try to break the Rams will early.  Tony Romo should have time to throw the ball and the Rams’ secondary is unlikely to offer much resistance.  That means that Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are all in line for big games.  Rookie RB DeMarco Murray couldn’t have picked a better team to make his starting debut against.  The Rams are allowing 163.0 yards rushing per game and 4.9 yards per carry so far this year.

When the Rams have the ball:  The Cowboys are going to go all out to stop RB Steven Jackson and force A.J. Feeley to try to beat them with his arm.  Rams’ QBs have been sacked 22 times already this year, so DeMarcus Ware and his buddies should have no problem getting to Feeley.  Look for Brandon Lloyd to be featured in the passing game for the Rams.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 31, RAMS 7

The Dallas Cowboys waive rookie WR Dwayne Harris

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,Leaving Town,The Draft Report by admin on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at 11:45 pm

The Cowboys have waived 24-year old rookie WR Dwayne Harris.  Harris played in five games for the Cowboys but he didn’t catch any passes.  Harris did return 11 punts for 73 yards (6.6 avg) and 3 kickoffs for 74 yards (24.7 avg) for the Cowboys.  He had a very solid pre-season for the Cowboys, but he hasn’t produced for them in the real games.  This is no big loss for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed OG Montrae Holland

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by admin on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at 11:42 pm

The Cowboys have re-signed 31-year old OG Montrae Holland.  Holland played in 14 games (2 starts) for the Cowboys last year.  He has now played in 21 games (4 starts) in his first three years with the Cowboys.  He might just step right into rookie Bill Nagy’s old job at guard this weekend.

The Dallas Cowboys will be without RB Felix Jones for the next 2-4 weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at 3:20 pm

The Dallas Cowboys will be without 24-year old, starting RB Felix Jones for the next 2-4 weeks due to injury (ankle sprain).  Jones has played in all five games for the Cowboys so far this year and he has carried the ball 64 times for 255 yards (4.0 ypc) and he has 1 TD run.  Jones has also caught 14 passes for 105 yards (7.5 avg) so far this year for the Cowboys.  23-year old rookie DeMarco Murray and 26-year old Tashard Choice will have to hold the fort at RB until Jones is ready to return to action.  Murray has played in all five games for the Cowboys so far this year and he has carried the ball 24 times for 71 yards (3.0 ypc).  He has also caught 4 passes for 23 yards (5.8 avg) so far this year.  He is likely to get the shot for most of the carries this weekend against the Rams.  Tashard Choice has played in all five games for the Cowboys so far this year and he has carried the ball 26 times for 67 yards (2.6 ypc).  He has also caught 11 passes for 71 yards (6.5 avg) so far this year for the Cowboys.  The Cowboys are a pass first team, so they should be able to cover for the loss of Jones until he’s ready to return to action.

The Dallas Cowboys lose starting LG Bill Nagy for the rest of the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at 3:11 pm

The Cowboys have lost 23-year old rookie, starting left guard Bill Nagy for the rest of the 2011 season due to a broken right ankle.  Nagy played in 4 games (all starts) for the Cowboys in his rookie season.  22-year old undrafted rookie Kevin Kowalski out of Toledo is Nagy’s likely replacement unless the Cowboys sign or deal for another guard before this weekend’s game at home against the Rams.
