Tony Romo needs to stop saying he’s confident and prove it

Blogged under Needs to Step Up, Bloglockers, General Cowboys Talk by Andrew on Thursday 8 October 2009 at 8:18 pm

The Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo has been receiving a lot of criticism this year, and most of it is well deserved.  Romo had a huge game in week one against the very weak Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but had a terrible three interception game the next week against the New York Giants.  Romo insists he is still confident in himself, but ever since his pathetic game against the Giants Romo has looked timid and has been playing poorly.  Romo has four touchdowns and four interceptions, throwing for 990 yards on 76/131 (58%) attempts so far this year.

Romo continues to speak out about how he is confident in his abilities and all that, but its not his physical abilities that are in question, it is his decision-making and the psyche he has going into games.  The criticism has obviously gone to Romo’s head, and he can continue to say otherwise but its obvious.  Romo lacked rhythm and played timid against one of the worst teams in the NFL, the win-less Carolina Panthers.  He followed that up with another bad game against the Denver Broncos where he failed to throw a touchdown pass and threw a costly interception.  Romo needs to stop caring about the critics and just go out and play football the way he is capable of playing.

The Dallas Cowboys sign CB Cletis Gordon

The Cowboys, desperate for defensive backfield, have signed corner Cletis Gordon.  The 27-year old Cletis Gordon played in 14 games (1 start) for the Chargers last season and he made 13 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  He has now played in 30 games in his NFL career and he has 29 tackles and he has defensed 3 passes.  Don’t expect miracles out of Gordon as he’s not that much of a player.

The Dallas Cowboys lose strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Cowboys Headlines, Injury Reports, General Cowboys Talk by admin on Monday 5 October 2009 at 7:30 pm

The Cowboys will be without starting strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh for the next 2-4 weeks as he has suffered a broken thumb.  He has played in all 4 games for the Cowboys so far this season and he has made 18 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  The Cowboys have released RB Chauncey Washington with the idea that the Cowboys would be able to re-sign Marvin White who they released last week.  But, he was claimed off waivers by the Lions so the Cowboys will have to come up with a new plan.

Dallas Cowboys 10, Denver Broncos 17

Blogged under Game Recaps, Bloglockers, Cowboys Headlines, General Cowboys Talk by Andrew on Monday 5 October 2009 at 12:53 am

The Dallas Cowboys (2-2) offense struggled today against the Denver Broncos (4-0) but almost came back late in the game.  Deep in their own territory on fourth down with a minute to go, Tony Romo scrambled around and then floated a pass to Sam Hurd who gained 53 yards on the play.  The Cowboys were able to get it to the Broncos two yard line with nine seconds to go, but the Broncos Champ Bailey broke up two passes and the Cowboys fell short.  Romo finished the game with 255 yards on 25/42 attempts and had an interception.  This is the second straight game Romo has failed to throw a touchdown pass.

The Cowboys defense were not able to contain the Broncos run game and began comitting to hard to it.  Broncos’ quarterback was able to throw two touchdowns because of it.  One was a 51-yard catch and run by Brandon Marshall who cut and weaved his way to the end-zone, breaking tackles throughout. Marion Barber did not look 100% as he ended up with only 11 carries but was able to get 41 yards (3.7 avg).  With Felix Jones still out, Tashard Choice did not have the game he had last week and only had 33 yards on 14 carries (2.4 avg).  The Cowboys need Jones back and they really need to get Romo going.  Romo has not looked good for two straight games now and they need to figure out their passing attack.  The Cowboys are looking to bounce back next week on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs.
