The Dallas Cowboys need a better backup plan in 2009

The Dallas Cowboys need to make sure that they have a capable backup QB for Tony Romo in 2009.  Romo played in 13 games (all starts) for the Cowboys last season and he completed 276 of 450 passes (61.3%) for 3,448 yards with 26 TD passes and 14 interceptions (91.4 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 28 times for 41 yards (1.5 ypc) last year.  Romo has now played in 67 games (39 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 831 of 1,307 passes (63.6%) for 10,562 yards with 81 TD passes and 46 interceptions (94.7 QB Rating).  Romo has also carried the ball 95 times for 270 yards (2.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs in his career.

40-year old Brad Johnson appears to be near the end of the line and that helped cause the Cowboys to miss the playoffs in 2008.  Johnson played in 16 games (3 starts) last year for the Cowboys and he completed 41 of 78 passes (52.6%) for 427 yards with 2 TD passes and 5 interceptions (50.5 QB Rating).  Johnson also carried the ball 2 times for -1 yard last season (-0.5 ypc).  Johnson has now played in 177 games (125 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 2,668 of 4,326 passes (61.7%) for 29,054 yards with 166 TD passes and 122 INTs (82.5 QB Rating).  Johnson also has carried the ball 276 times for 657 yards (2.4 ypc) with 8 TD runs.

29-year old Brooks Bollinger was the #3 QB last season for the Cowboys and he might move up the depth chart in 2009.  That would be a bad thing for the Cowboys who need a legit #2 QB in 2009.  Bollinger played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Cowboys last season and he completed 10 of 17 passes (58.8%) for 71 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception (63.6 QB Rating).  Bollinger has now played in 21 games (10 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 211 of 360 passes (58.6%) for 2,226 yards with 9 TD passes and 9 interceptions (74.6 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 41 times for 155 yards (3.8 ypc) in his career.
