The Cowboys felt that they needed another TE after trading Anthony Fasano to the Dolphins so that’s the reason for the drafting of Bennett.  Bennett is a big guy at 6′5″, 250 pounds and he runs a 4.6 40 so he has the physical skill to succeed in the NFL.  But, coaches say that he doesn’t always work hard and that could be a problem in the NFL.  Bennett played in 36 games (24 starts) at Texas A&M and he caught 102 passes for 1,197 yards (11.7 avg) with 9 TD grabs.  He will likely back up Jason Witten and be on the field if the Cowboys go to two TE sets.

The Cowboys traded back up into the first round to select Mike Jenkins out of South Florida.  He is 5′10″, 200 pounds and he runs a very quick 4.45 40.  Jenkins played in 49 games (40 starts) at South Florida and he made 133 tackles, broke up 41 passes, had 6 interceptions and forced 3 fumbles.  Jenkins will probably start out as a nickel back for the Cowboys but he will no doubt be a starter down the road….and a good one at that.

The Cowboys couldn’t be happier when they drafted running back Felix Jones out of Arkansas in the first round.  Jones is 5′11″, 205 pounds and he runs a blazin’ 4.4 40.  Jones will likely replace Julius Jones as Marion Barber’s partner in the running game.  Jones played in 38 games (11 starts) at Arkansas and he carried the ball 386 times for 2,956 yards (7.7 ypc) with 20 TD runs.  He also has caught 39 passes for 383 yards (9.8 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Barber will handle the rough stuff inside and Jones will provide the speed on the outside just like he did in college.
