When your best pick was a kicker, the draft didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to. OLB Anthony Spencer was the first round pick of the Cowboys last season and he played in all 16 games (6 starts) and he made 36 tackles, had 3 sacks and he forced 2 fumbles. The Cowboys think he will improve now that he has his feet wet. The Cowboys’ third round pick, OT James Marten never made it on the field. WR/KR Isaiah Stanback only played in 2 games (0 starts) before injuring himself and missing the rest of the season. He returned 3 kickoffs for 78 yards (26.0 avg) as a rookie. OT Doug Free was the Cowboys’ other 4th round pick last season and he only played in 1 game (0 starts). The Cowboys made their best pick of the draft in the 5th round when they selected kicker Nick Folk who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. Folk played in all 16 games for the Cowboys last season and he made 26 of 31 field goals (83.9%) and he also converted all 53 of his extra points to finish with 131 points. Folk will likely one of the best kickers in the NFL for quite a while. 6th round pick Deon Anderson showed potential before he tore his rotator cuff ending his rookie year. Anderson played in 8 games (4 starts) for the Cowboys last season and he caught 6 passes for 55 yards (9.2 avg). Anderson also returned 1 kickoff for 10 yards. CB Courtney Brown was the first of the 7th round picks for the Cowboys last season and he played in 8 games (0 starts) and he made only 6 tackles. Fellow CB Alan Ball was also selected in the 7th round last season and he played in 2 games (0 starts) and he made 3 tackles.
