The Cowboys have signed 34-year old inside linebacker Zach Thomas.  Thomas missed much of last season due to concussions but he played well when healthy which indicates that he still has some gas left in the tank.  Thomas played in 5 games last season for the Dolphins and he made 52 tackles, defensed 2 passes and had 1 sack.  Thomas has now played in 168 games in his NFL career and he has made 1,642 tackles, defensed 65 passes, forced 15 fumbles and intercepted 17 passes……four of which he returned for TDs.  This was a good move for the Cowboys who will likely start him at middle linebacker as long as he stays healthy.

Although the Cowboys ran the ball well last season they threw the ball much more.  Still, you can’t blame the Cowboys with the end result.  Marion Barber was outstanding last season for the Cowboys.  He played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Cowboys last season and he carried the ball 204 times for 975 yards (4.8 ypc) with 10 TD runs.  He also caught 44 passes for 282 yards (6.4 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Barber has now played in 45 games (3 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 477 times for 2,167 yards (4.5 ypc) with 29 TD runs.  He also has caught 85 passes for 593 yards (7.0 avg) with 4 TD grabs.

Julius Jones had an off season last year for the Cowboys and it cost him some playing time.  Jones played in 16 games (all starts) for the Cowboys last season and he carried the ball 164 times for 588 yards (3.6 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 23 passes for 203 yards (8.8 avg).  Jones has now played in 53 games (51 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 885 times for 3,484 yards (3.9 ypc) with 18 TD runs.  He also has caught 84 passes for 672 yards (8.0 avg).

Tyson Thompson missed some time again this past season due to injury.  He played in 8 games (0 starts) last season for the Cowboys and he carried the ball 14 times for 54 yards (3.9 ypc).  Thompson has now played in 30 games (0 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 73 times for 266 yards (3.6 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 3 passes for 16 yards (5.3 avg).

Rookie fullback Deon Anderson did a solid job of blocking in the running game before he was injured.  Anderson played in 8 games (4 starts) last season for the Cowboys and he caught 6 passes for 55 yards (9.2 avg).
