The Dallas Cowboys use important players as return men

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Saturday 6 October 2007 at 8:39 am

The Dallas Cowboys use starting WR Patrick Crayton as the punt returner and backup running back Tyson Thompson as the kickoff returner.  Crayton has caught 13 passes for 262 yards (20.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs and he also has returned 8 punts for 111 yards (13.9 avg).  Crayton is emerging into one of the most important players on the Cowboys roster.  Tyson Thompson has carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards (4.2 ypc) but he doesn’t get many scraps from the table as Marion Barber and Julius Jones do most of the heavy lifting in the running game for the Cowboys.  Thompson has returned 9 kickoffs for 204 yards (22.7 avg) so far this season and he will break a long one soon.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Friday 5 October 2007 at 8:11 pm

This game appears to be a gigantic mis-match on paper.  Who knows though….maybe the Cowboys will be looking ahead to the showdown with New England next weekend.  That’s doubtful though as the have been the most dominant team outside of the Patriots in the entire NFL.  They are averaging 37.8 points per game, 440.8 yards of offense per game and they are +7 in turnovers so far this season.  The Bills are coming off of their first win of the season against the Jets.

The Bills are missing a lot of players on defense and that partially explains why they are allowing 148.0 yards rushing per game and 282.3 yards passing!  It appears as if the Cowboys will be able to do whatever they want on Monday Night.  Look for them to attempt to make everyone happy as RBs Marion Barber (306 yards rushing) and Julius Jones (176 yards rushing) will split up the carries in the running game.  Look for Tony Romo (112.9 QB Rating) to spread the ball around to Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton and Jason Witten with little resistance.

The Bills will likely try what worked last week by throwing short passes and running the football.  So the pressure will fall on QB Trent Edwards and RB Marshawn Lynch against a very aggressive Cowboys defense that is only allowing 299.5 yards per game.  The Bills should try to get the football to Lee Evans as he will give the Bills the best chance to make the big plays needed to keep close with the Cowboys.

PREDICTION:  This will be a blowout.  The only people watching this game will be the guys/gals that either have a bet on the game or have Cowboys on their fantasty roster.

The Dallas Cowboys to be without two DB’s for Monday Night’s game with the Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Cowboys Headlines, Injury Reports, General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Tuesday 2 October 2007 at 5:56 pm

The Cowboys will be without CB Anthony Henry and S Courtney Brown for the big game with the Bills on Monday Night.  Henry has been outstanding this season with 12 tackles and 4 interceptions but the Cowboys have lucked out as Terence Newman has come back earlier than expected and he will take Henry’s spot in the starting lineup for now.  He has 4 tackles this season.  Courtney Brown tore a biceps muscle in practice and he will be out indefinately.  Brown doesn’t have any tackles so far this season.  Nathan Jones will shift to safety from cornerback to provide depth there.  He has 11 tackles so far this season.
