The Cowboys completely dominated the Rams on Sunday.  Tony Romo completed 21 of 33 passes for 339 yards with 3 TD passes and 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 24 yards (8.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Julius Jones (13 car, 52 yards (4.0 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 1 pass for 11 yards.  Marion Barber carried the ball 8 times for 50 yards (6.3 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 22 yards (11.0 avg).  Tyson Thompson finished up the game for the Cowboys rushing for 47 yards on 8 carries (5.9 ypc).  WR Patrick Crayton had an outstanding game with 7 catches for 184 yards (26.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs and he also returned 2 punts for 45 yards (22.5 avg).  TE Jason Witten (6 rec, 71 yards, TD) and Terrell Owens (3 rec, 33 yards) each pitched in on the passing game.  The Cowboys finished up with 171 yards rushing on 33 carries (5.2 ypc) and they completed 21 of 33 passes for 331 yards.

The Cowboys defense was outstanding against the Rams.  They held them to 62 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.0 ypc) and the Rams completed 14 of 30 passes for 125 yards.

Dallas Cowboys vs. St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Thursday 27 September 2007 at 11:10 am
The St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys are two teams going in different directions.  The Rams are a beat up team that is 0-3 while the Cowboys are 3-0 having won each game by 10 or more points!  This game really has the look of a massacre!  With Marc Bulger playing with broken ribs, Steven Jackson out and possibly Isaac Bruce too….the Rams appear to be in deep, deep trouble.  The Rams have offensive line issues as they are only averaging 3.5 yards per carry running the football and Bulger has already been sacked 8 times this season.  The Rams will likely try to attack the Cowboys in the air as they allow 250.3 yards passing per game…..but they also have 8 interceptions so Bulger has to be careful.  The Cowboys will undoubtedly put cornerback Anthony Henry (4 interceptions, 1 TD return) on Torry Holt (18 rec, 210 yards, 2 TDs) so the Rams might be forced to look to other receivers this week.  With Isaac Bruce likely a game time decision, Drew Bennett and Randy McMichael will be asked to step up.  Both are capable receivers so the Rams should be able to get something going through the air as long as they give Bulger time.  That will be hard to do against the Cowboys who will likely turn OLBs Anthony Spencer and DeMarcus Ware loose to blitz often and that’s bad news for the Rams.  The Cowboys have a solid run defense as they only allow 86.7 yards per game on the ground so don’t look for the Rams to waste much time running the ball with rookie RB Brian Leonard.

The Cowboys will likely lean on the running game a little more than usual against a Rams’ defense that is allowing 152.3 yards rushing and 4.7 yards per carry so far this season.  Marion Barber will likely get the bulk of the carries as Julius Jones has had some concussion problems this season.  Barber should have a great game as he is a bulldozer that has 256 yards rushing on 40 carries (6.4 ypc) with 4 TD runs this season.  Don’t think for a minute that the Cowboys won’t throw the ball often, especially with the Rams hurting at cornerback.  Look for Terrell Owens to have another monster game this week and pad his stats (16 rec, 329 yards, 3 TDs).  Also, Tony Romo (111.9 QB Rating) is looking for TE Jason Witten as his #2 receiver (14 rec, 233 yards, 2 TDs) and he should also have another good game.

PREDICTION:  This has all of the makings of a severe blowout at the hands of the Cowboys.  The Rams would be smart if they started Gus Frerotte in this football game…..but they aren’t!

The Dallas Cowboys cut kicker Martin Gramatica

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Wednesday 26 September 2007 at 7:50 pm

The Dallas Cowboys have cut Martin Gramatica off the Injured Reserve list.  Rookie Nick Folk has been impressive so far this season so the Cowboys felt comfortable with this move.  Folk has hit 6 of 7 field goals so far as his leg looks strong and accurate.

Dallas Cowboys 34, Chicago Bears 10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Monday 24 September 2007 at 6:32 pm

The Dallas Cowboys exploded in the 2nd half of the game last night as they kicked the Cowboys’ ass!  Tony Romo completed 22 of 35 passes for 329 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 interception.  RB Marion Barber was outstanding as he was running over the Bears defense.  He carried the ball 15 times for 102 yards (6.8 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 1 pass for 10 yards and it was a TD.  Julius Jones also carried some of the load in the running game last night as he toted the rock 7 times for 26 yards (3.7 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 29 yards (14.5 avg).  Terrell Owens was devastating to the Bears’ defense as he caught 8 passes for 145 yards (18.1 avg) and TE Jason Witten was also very busy with 6 catches for 90 yards (15.0 avg) and a TD.  The Cowboys finished up with 131 yards rushing on 25 carries (5.2 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 35 passes for 300 yards.

The defense of the Cowboys was outstanding last night.  Roy Williams (3 tackles, fumble recovery, interception), Anthony Henry (2 tackles, 2 interceptions (1 returned 51 yards for a TD)) and linebacker DeMarcus Ware (6 tackles, 2 sacks) were all outstanding!  The Cowboys held the Bears to 75 yards rushing on 23 carries (3.3 ypc) and the Bears also completed 15 of 33 passes for 164 yards.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 21 September 2007 at 8:25 pm
Something has to give in this ballgame on Sunday Night. The Bears are only allowing 12.0 points per game and the Cowboys are averaging 41.0 points per game this season. It will be interesting to see how this football game plays out. The Bears will likely try to keep the ball on the ground to control the clock. To do that though, Cedric Benson (143 yards rushing, 3.3 ypc) and Adrian Peterson (47 yards rushing, 5.2 ypc) must hold onto the football. The Cowboys do give up 293.5 yards passing per game so the Bears will likely try to get the ball down the field to Bernard Berrian (10 rec, 148 yards) and over the middle to TEs Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark. Rex Grossman must be careful with the ball because the Cowboys already have five interceptions this season.

When the Cowboys have the football will be the funnest thing to watch in this game. They will try to run the football against the Bears defense that is only allowing 73.5 yards rushing per game and 2.5 yards per carry. So look for some high impact collisions between RBs Marion Barber (154 yards rushing, 3 TDs) and Julius Jones (98 yards rushing) and DT Tommie Harris and LBs Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. The Bears will blitz often to try to get to Tony Romo before he gets the ball off, but the Cowboys have only allowed 2 sacks this season. TE Jason Witten (8 rec, 143 yards, TD) will likely challenge the Bears safeties often and that is a weakness of the Bears defense. WR Terrell Owens (8 rec, 184 yards, 3 TDs) will put big time pressure on the corners of the Bears to make plays.

PREDICTION: The Cowboys will score early in this game and Rex Grossman will make a few big mistakes that will turn the game in the Cowboys favor. Because of that the Cowboys will win this game by about a TD.

Tony Romo is looking for real for the Dallas Cowboys

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Friday 21 September 2007 at 8:05 pm

Tony Romo has been outstanding so far this season for the Cowboys.  He has completed 29 of 53 passes (54.7%) for 531 yards with 6 TD passes and 1 interception (119.3 QB Rating).  He has also run the ball 7 times for 47 yards (6.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  With the line blocking like they are (only 2 sacks allowed) and the running game churning out 154.0 yards per game……Tony Romo should continue to be deadly this season for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys sign NT Tank Johnson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Tuesday 18 September 2007 at 5:07 pm

The Dallas Cowboys have signed free agent NT Tank Johnson to a 2-year contract.  The Cowboys needed some help in the D-Line after losing starting NT Jason Ferguson for the season due to injury.  Johnson won’t be elgible to return to the NFL for six more weeks while he serves an NFL suspension for off field conduct.  He needs to behave and get in shape because the Cowboys need his help so they can make a deep run in the playoffs this season.  Johnson played in 14 games last season for the Bears and he made 26 tackles, had 3.5 sacks, defensed 1 pass and forced a fumble.  Johnson has now played in 46 games in his 3-year NFL career and he has made 63 tackles, 9 sacks, has defensed 4 passes and forced 1 fumble.  This was a god gamble by the Cowboys as they need help with their run defense.

Timetable set for Terry Glenn’s return to the Dallas Cowboys

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Tuesday 18 September 2007 at 4:54 pm

Terry Glenn had surgery on his knee last Thursday and he will miss the next 4-6 weeks.  That is good news to the Cowboys who feared that he might miss the rest of the season due to his bad knee.  Patrick Crayton (3 rec, 51 yards) and Sam Hurd (3 rec, 69 yards, TD) will continue to have an important role in the offense until Glenn returns from injury.

Dallas Cowboys 37, Miami Dolphins 20

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Monday 17 September 2007 at 9:49 am

The Dallas Cowboys were ballhogs yesterday as they had possession of the football for 35:03 of the football game yesterday against the Dolphins.  Tony Romo had a solid game completing 14 of 29 passes for 186 with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions.  He also ran the ball 4 times for 36 yards (9.0 ypc).  Marion Barber did the heavy lifting in the running game as he carried the ball 14 times for 89 yards (6.4 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Julius Jones had a rough time finding running room against the Dolphins as he carried the ball 15 times for 32 yards (2.1 ypc).  WR Terrell Owens was outstanding as usual with 5 catches for 97 yards (19.4 avg) with 1 TD.  The Cowboys finished up with 166 yards rushing on 36 carries (4.6 ypc) and they completed 14 of 29 passes for 186 yards.

The defense was outstanding yesterday for the Cowboys as they held the Dolphins to 61 yards rushing on 21 carries (2.9 ypc) and they intercepted Trent Green 4 times!  CB Anthony Henry (2 tackles, 2 interceptions) and safeties Roy Williams (4 tackles, interception) and Ken Hamlin (5 tackles, interception) were baiting Trent Green into the mistakes the whole game.  The Dolphins did throw for 273 yards on 23 of 40 passing but it didn’t matter in the long run as the Cowboys were the vastly superior team yesterday.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Miami Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 14 September 2007 at 8:33 am

The Dallas Cowboys come into this football game on a high not after beating the Giants 45-35 in a thriller last Sunday Night.  The Dolphins played hard in their opener at Washington but they suffered a tough loss 16-13 in OT.  The bad news for the Dolphins in this football game is that the Cowboys will likely attack them on the ground just like the Redskins did last week.  The Redskins rushed for 191 yards on 41 carries (4.7 ypc) last week against the supposed rugged defense of the Dolphins.  You could just see Julius Jones (66 yards rushing) and Marion Barber (65 yards rushing) licking their chops as they were watching game film of the Dolphins game last week.  LB Zach Thomas better be ready for an all-out running assault.  The bad thing for the Dolphins defense is that the Cowboys are well equipped to burn them in the air this week too.  Look for the Cowboys to attack the safeties of the Dolphins by throwing to TE Jason Witten (6 rec, 116 yards, TD) who had a field day against the Giants.  Also, look for Tony Romo (128.5 QB Rating) to take some shots deep to Terrell Owens (3 rec, 87 yards, 2 TDs) off of play action.

The Dolphins must run the football to keep time running off the clock and keep the ball away from the Cowboys high powered offense.  To do that they will need their offensive line to block much better than they did in the season opener when they only rushed for 66 yards on 20 carries (3.3 ypc) as a team.  Ronnie Brown will likely get the bulk of the action in the running game with Jesse Chatman banged up and he has to do better than last week when he only rushed for 32 yards on 11 carries (2.9 ypc).  The Giants were running at will on the Cowboys last week as they rushed for 124 yards on 22 carries (5.6 ypc) and most of that was with backup running backs.  The offensive line must keep OLBs DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer out of their backfield to give QB Trent Green to throw the ball down the field to Chris Chambers and Marty Booker as the corners of the Cowboys didn’t play too well last week.

PREDICTION:  The Dolphins won’t be able to keep up with the Cowboys this week.  It will be because of the offensive line which likely will have trouble all season long.
