The Cowboys sign WR Jamel Richardson

Jamel Richardson played 4 seasons in the Canadian Football League and he caught 118 passes for 1,501 yards (12.7 avg).  He has NFL size at 6’3″, 220 pounds but he has an uphill battle to make the roster because the Cowboys roster is stacked with receivers in front of him.

The Dallas Cowboys sign safety Ken Hamlin to a 1-year contract

The Cowboys were a little upset at their safeties last season because they often got beat deep.  Hamlin should help out with that problem.  He also is great in run support and with him and Roy Williams patrolling the middle of the field, opposing wide receivers may have frequent cases of alligator arms.  Hamlin played in all 16 games for the Seattle Seahawks last season and he made 96 tackles, 3 interceptions, defensed 8 passes and forced a fumble.  A good signing by the Cowboys.

The Cowboys release OT Jason Fabini

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Saturday 10 March 2007 at 10:26 pm

Jason Fabini had been a starting player his entire career until last season when he was beaten out by Marc Colombo for his job.  Fabini played in 15 games last season for the Cowboys but he didn’t start any of them.  The veteran has played in 129 games and he’s started 114 of them.  Fabini will probably hook on with someone else soon but the Cowboys didn’t want to pay him what he thought he was worth.

The Cowboys re-sign OT Marc Colombo

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Saturday 10 March 2007 at 10:20 pm

The Cowboys have re-signed Marc Colombo to a 2 year, $7 million dollar contract.  Colombo was a starter for the first time in his career and he played really well.  So the 6’8″, 320 pound Colombo has earned the contract now hopefully he’ll continue to play well.

The Cowboys re-sign kicker Martin Gramatica to a 2 year contract

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 12:59 am

The Cowboys have re-signed Martin Gramatica to a two year contract.  He did a good job after replacing Mike Vanderjagt last season as he played in 8 games and hit 7 of 9 field goals and all 23 of his extra points.  He might not have a big leg but he’s pretty accurate so he should help the Cowboys next season.

The Cowboys sign Brad Johnson to back up Tony Romo

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 12:54 am

The Cowboys have signed veteran Brad Johnson to a three year contract to back up Tony Romo.  He played in 15 games (14 starts) last season for the Minnesota Vikings and he completed 270 of 439 passes (61.5%) for 2,750 yards with 9 TD passes and 15 interceptions (72.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 29 times for 82 yards (2.8 ypc) with 1 TD run.  This was a good signing for the Cowboys as insurance in case Romo was a fluke.

The Cowboys sign OT/G Leonard Davis to a 7 year contract

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Sunday 4 March 2007 at 11:23 pm

The Cowboys have signed Leonard Davis to a 7 year, $50 million dollar contract.  Davis has been an underachiever to this point in his career, but no one has even doubted his potential.  Maybe Wade Phillips will give him a swift kick in the butt and make him the Pro Bowl player everyone thought he was going to be when the Cardinals drafted him.  He started all 16 games for the Cardinals last season and he started 91 games in his 6 seasons in Arizona.  Look for the 6’6″, 366 pound mountain of a man to do a good job for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys release Drew Bledsoe

Blogged under Bloglockers,Cowboys Headlines,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Friday 2 March 2007 at 1:44 am

The Cowboys released Drew Bledsoe yesterday.  He played in 6 games (all starts) and he completed 90 of 169 passes (53.3%) for 1,164 yards with 7 TD passes and 8 interceptions.  So Bledsoe wound up having one good year and one bad one for the Cowboys.  He played in 22 games as a Cowboy and he completed 390 of 668 passes (58.4%) for 4,803 yards with 30 TD passes and 25 interceptions.  The Cowboys will likely try to sign a veteran quarterback to help out Tony Romo.  They also need a vet just in case Romo was a fluke last season.

The Cowboys release a couple of players

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Cowboys Talk by dawgpounded on Friday 2 March 2007 at 1:36 am

The Cowboys have released TE Ryan Hannam and OG E.J. Whitley.  Hannam was a complete bust as a free agent as he only played in 2 games and didn’t even catch a pass.  Whitley didn’t even play in a game last year.  Both will be easily replaced by the Cowboys.
