Dallas Cowboys lose starting linebacker for the season
Starting OLB Greg Ellis will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Look for Al Singleton, Kevin Burnett and Bobby Carpenter to get increased playing time for the Cowboys.
If the Cowboys are “America’s Team,” then CowboysLocker.com is America’s Blog for America’s Team. It’s non-stop Dallas Cowboys coverage, every day of the NFL season. Want to know who Tony Romo’s going with now? We’re right on top of it. How ’bout them Cowboys!
Starting OLB Greg Ellis will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Look for Al Singleton, Kevin Burnett and Bobby Carpenter to get increased playing time for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys played a solid game all the way around on Sunday. Tony Romo looked good again, completing 20 of 29 passes for 308 yards and 2 TDs. Julius Jones carried the ball 15 times for 45 yards (3.0 ypc). Marion Barber had a good game with 14 carries for 65 yards (4.6 ypc) and a TD. Patrick Crayton had a great game with 5 catches for 104 yards and a TD. Terrell Owens caught 5 passes for 96 yards and a TD. Jason Witten (5 rec, 58 yards) and Sam Hurd (4 rec, 42 yards) each pitched in on offense.
The Cowboys defense played a good game. The Cowboys held the Cardinals to 86 yards rushing on 21 carries (4.1 ypc). The Cards completed 20 of 38 passes for 209 net yards passing.
The Cowboys rebounded well from their shocking defeat last week, and played a solid all-around game against the Cards.
Terry Glenn will miss the game due to injury. Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd will take his snaps.
The Dallas Cowboys are 4-4 and coming off of a shocking last second loss to their nemesis, the Redskins. The Cardinals are on a 7 game losing streak and look like the worst team in the NFL.
The Cowboys should be able to do whatever they want on offense as the Cardinals can’t stop the run (124.4 yards per game) OR the pass (219.4 yards per game). The Tuna will probably try to get the running game going first with Julius Jones (689 yards rushing) and Marion Barber (309 yards rushing). After the running game is established Tony Romo will get his shot at the Cardinals secondary. Look for Terrell Owens and Jason Witten to have huge games on Sunday.
The Cardinals would like to get Edgerrin James (516 yards rushing) going, but the Cowboys have a tough run defense (85.4 yards per game). The Cards offensive line will need to block well for Matt Leinart to give him a chance to get the ball to the Cardinals play-makers. Anquan Boldin (48 rec, 608 yards) should benefit from single coverage for the first time in weeks because Larry Fitzgerald is back. The Cowboys safeties have been late in helping the corners deep, so look for Leinart to try to expose that.
The Cowboys should win this game easy, but the Bears thought they would too and wound up in a dog fight.
Tony Romo has replaced Drew Bledsoe and the offense has looked better as a result. Romo can make some plays with his legs which is important behind an offensive line that doesn’t pass-block well. Romo has completed 64.6% of his passes so far for 816 yards with 6 TDs and 4 INTs. Romo has a QB rating of 93.7 and looks like he will keep the job for awhile as long as he is careful with the football.
Drew Bledsoe didn’t play well when he was the starter this season. Bledsoe looked a little nervous in the pocket due to the 16 sacks he endured. He often rushed his passes and tried to fit the ball in tight spots, and the results weren’t pretty. Bledsoe completed 53.3% of his passes for 1,164 yards with 7 TDs and 8 INTs. Bledsoe’s QB rating is only 69.2, which is way below average. Bledsoe still has the arm to make plays when given time to throw in the pocket. Bledsoe probably won’t see the field unless Romo is injured.
