Cowboys outscore the Texans 31-0 in second half, to win 34-6

I really wonder what Bill Parcells told his team in the locker room at halftime?  Whatever it was, he got his point across.  The Texans were winning 6-3 at the half.  Drew Bledsoe had a decent game completing 17 of 28 passes for 168 yards and 2 TDs.  Everyone’s favorite back-up QB, Tony Romo completed 2 of 2 passes for 35 yards and a TD.  The Cowboys just pushed around the Texans in the running game.  Julius Jones carried the ball 22 times for 106 yards (4.8 ypc).  Marion Barber added 10 carries for 57 yards and a TD.  Terrell Owens finally had his chance to shine as he caught 5 passes for 45 yards and 3 TDs!  Patrick Crayton caught 5 passes for 61 yards and Terry Glenn caught 5 passes for 47 yards.

The Cowboys secondary played a great game against the Texans.  CB Anthony Henry had 8 tackles, defensed 4 passes and intercepted a pass.  Safety Roy Williams had 4 tackles, a fumble recovery and defensed a pass.  CB Terence Newman had 4 tackles, defensed a pass and had an interception.  The Cowboys run defense was simply awesome, holding the Texans to 34 yards rushing on 17 carries (2.0 ypc).  The Texans completed 23 of 38 passes for 198 net yards thru the air.

This was a dominating performance by the defense, and a dominant second half from the offense.

Cowboys make a couple of moves

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Friday 13 October 2006 at 12:56 pm

Tight-end Ryan Hannam was placed on the Injured Reserve list due to a degenerative knee condition.  Hannam was primarily a blocker in the running game and a special teams player.

The Cowboys also released kicker Shaun Suisham.  Mike Vanderjagt will assume all kicking duties for the Cowboys.

Cowboys vs. Texans

The Texans have had a rough start to their season (1-3), but that was probably to be expected with a new coach.  The Cowboys, however, are off to a slow start (2-2) and they were expected to be Super Bowl contenders.

Coach Kubiak would love to be able to run the ball more effectively as his teams did in Denver.  The problem against the Cowboys is that their defense is so tough against the run, allowing only 75.3 yards rushing and 3.1 yards per carry.  With the Texans own problems running the ball (76 yards per game, 3.2 ypc) the thought is that Coach Kubiak will let David Carr come out throwing against the Cowboys. It makes sense using the two best playmakers (Andre Johnson and Eric Moulds) as much as possible.  David Carr has completed 73% of his passes this season and has a QB rating of 108.9.  The Cowboys defense is vulnerable to the pass as they allow 215.8 yards passing per game.  Chances are that the Cowboys will leave CBs Anthony Henry and Terence Newman on the wide-outs one on one, so that they can bring the maximum heat at David Carr.

The Cowboys are probably licking their chops looking at game film of the Texans defense.  The Texans allow 139.8 yards rushing per game (4.7 ypc) and 295.3 yards passing per game (69.8%, 113.1 QB rating).  The Cowboys love to run the football, so Julius Jones (388 yards rushing) and Marion Barber (129 yards rushing) will get the first shot to punish the Texans defense.  As soon as they establish dominance on the ground, Bledsoe will go to the air.  Bledsoe is under fire in Dallas, but he will look like he’s on fire against the Texans defense.  Look for Terry Glenn and Terrell Owens to both have good game.  TE Jason Witten should get enough scraps from the table to stay happy too.

The Cowboys are gonna win this game big, because they have more talent at almost every position on the football field.

Cowboys special teams hit and miss

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 1:28 pm

The Cowboys do some good things and some bad things on special teams.  The Cowboys have covered kicks pretty well except for one that Rock Cartwright of the Redskins returned 100 yards for a TD.  The Cowboys have held opposing punt returners to an average of 8.2 yards per return.  The Cowboys allow 21.9 yards per kick-off return, but they did allow the TD against the Redskins.

Mike Vanderjagt has kicked most of the season and has hit 4 of 5 FGs and all 12 XPTs this season.  Shaun Suisham has also kicked when Vanderjagt was dinged up.  Suisham has hit 1 of 2 FGs and both XPTs.  Punter Mat McBriar has a big leg, averaging 50.7 yards per punt, 40.9 net yards per punt and he has pinned the opposition inside the 20 yard line 26.3% of the time.

The Cowboys have tried out many punt returners and no one seems to want the job.  Terrence Newman (7.9 avg), Patrick Crayton (7.3 avg) and Jamaica Rector (5.5 avg) have all been given their opportunities.  RB Tyson Thompson is a very good kick-off returner as he averages 26.6 yards per return.

need help at QB

Blogged under General Cowboys Talk by steve on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 12:11 pm

we definitely need help at quarterback..drew bledsoe is like a boulder in sand.

when are we going to give romo a shot..can’t do any worsse than drewe. if

you insist on playing him, at least put him in the shotgun on passing downs.

he obviously can’t get back in the pocket quick enough to avoid being sacked

while trying to locate potential receivers..doesn’t he know how to throw the

ball away when he gets into instead of giving easy interceptions?

Cowboy fans boycott games until “New coach and Quarterback” is brought In

Hello Again “Cowboy Nation”

I am so tired of being disappointed time after time. We honestly, had every chance to beat those green birds from Philly with a “put together quarterback” and a “broke down” offensive line. We can’t blame TO for everything. He is a great player. Let him be great. Nobody says anything when other players rant and rave on the sidelines. Like Michael Irvin said, TO or somebody should have said something to those who were carrying a “we can’t win” attitude. Every man puts his pants on the same way. Don’t take anything away from the Philly team but, don’t give them all the credit. One lucky break for them won the game. I’m sure they had it in their mind when the Cowboys drove down in the red zone, “are they gone give up or what”?

I remember when I was 10 my brothers use to sit in front of the tv and watch these men with the spur on their helmets every Sunday. Soon, I came to realize who they were and became a dire heart fan too. That’s why its so hard to see them go through so much. We really need a coach of the mindset of Jimmy Johnson. I don’t care what anybody say, Jimmy knew talent and knew how to use it.  Some where out there on the horizon sits a Superbowl with the Dallas Cowboys name on it but, for now I just can’t bring it into view.

God help our “Dallas Cowboy” souls

Cowboys can’t keep up with Eagles and lose 38-24

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 9 October 2006 at 1:16 am

The score really doesn’t tell the whole story here as the Eagles returned an interception 102 yards for a TD at the end of the game.  The Cowboys put forth a good effort in this game, but it wasn’t enough.  Bledsoe was a little off today completing 18 of 38 passes for 223 yards with 3 INT, he also carried the ball 5 times for 24 yards and a TD.  RB Julius Jones carried the ball 26 times for 100 yards (3.8 ypc).  Marion Barber also had a decent game, carrying the ball 7 times for 22 yards (3.1 ypc) and a TD, he also caught 3 passes for 26 yards.  Terry Glenn caught 5 passes for 61 yards.  TE Jason Witten caught 4 passes for 51 yards.  Terrell Owens had his chances but only caught 3 passes for 45 yards.

LB DeMarcus Ware was all over the place.  Ware had one tackle, 1.5 sacks and returned a fumble 69 yards for a TD!  The Cowboys stuffed the Eagles running game holding them to 52 yards on 18 carries (2.9 ypc).  The Cowboys were hopeless trying to stop McNabb from passing the ball.  The Eagles completed 18 of 33 passes for 331 net yards passing.

What the hell is going on with the O-line and we NEED a QB!

Blogged under General Cowboys Talk by david morris on Sunday 8 October 2006 at 7:24 pm

We have had every chance in the world to win this football game (note: I am writting this blog while the game is still going on.), but we have no o-line to speak of and Bledsoe is just Bledsoe enough said.I mean lets look at this situation and be honest, we can’t run block or pass block. How many times each week have we seen the QB get sacked or rushed in the pocket because there is no push up front or containment in the passing game! And how many damn times!!!! is no nuts Bledsoe going to absolutely fall apart in the clutch . Case in point: tonight in Philly with the ball on the 7 yard line,23 seconds to play and he throws an interception!!!! Fire this loser , the offensive line and the o-line coaches!!!And last but certainly not least, what in hell is Parcells and the defensive back coaches thinking about having a rookie in the game on pass coverage downs in such a crucial divisional game like this. It was clear that the rook was out of his league. And Bill when are you going to quit being loyal to your has been boy Bledsoe!? you are killing us as a team and organization by trying to continue to play daddy to this thing called a QB! Sit down and take a long look in the mirror and make the right decision Tuna and fire his ass!!!!! Three INT’S and 7 sacks ! Enough said.

Cowboys vs. Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 5 October 2006 at 10:51 am

Every game in the NFC East is a must-win showdown.  This game will have extra spice because of Terrell Owens return to Philadelphia.

The Cowboys will probably come out running the football with Julius Jones (288 yards rushing) and Marion Barber (107 yards rushing) against the Eagles tough run defense (94.5 yards rushing and 3.7 yards per carry).  If the Cowboys establish a running game, it should slow the Eagles pass rush (16 sacks this season) down quite a bit.  Bledsoe’s favorite receiver is Terry Glenn (15 rec, 229 yards), but I look for Terrell Owens (14 rec, 187 yards) to have a huge game against the Eagles pass defense that is allowing 244.3 yards passing per game.

If the Eagles are without Brian Westbrook (256 yards rushing, 164 yards receiving), they will become one-dimensional.  The Cowboys have a very solid pass defense that only has allowed 177.3 yards per game.  Donovan McNabb has been great so far (1,248 yards passing, 106.0 QB rating), but those numbers were put up against 3 lousy football teams (Texans, 49ers, and Packers)!  The Eagles WRs Donte’ Stallworth (12 rec, 248 yards) and Reggie Brown (11 rec, 212 yards) are very average, but they have a good tight-end in LJ Smith (18 rec, 224 yards).

I think the Cowboys will win this game and T.O. will be smiling from ear to ear.

Gurode returns to practice

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Wednesday 4 October 2006 at 12:21 am

Starting guard Andre Gurode has returned to practice and should be able to start this week against the Eagles.  Gurode seems to have recovered from getting his head stomped on by DT Albert Haynesworth of the Titans.
