The Cowboys were on cruise control for 3 quarters before exploding in the 4th quarter.  Tony Romo passed his first test, completing 24 of 36 passes for 270 yards with a TD and an INT.  Romo also carried the ball 4 times for 18 yards.  Julius Jones carried the ball 24 times for 92 yards (3.8 ypc) and a TD.  Marion Barber carried the ball 9 times for 49 yards (5.4 ypc) and 2 TDs.  WR Terrell Owens caught 9 passes for 107 yards and Terry Glenn caught 4 passes for 52 yards.  TE Jason Witten caught 6 passes for 80 yards and a TD.

Greg Ellis had 4 tackles, 2 sacks and forced a fumble.  The Panthers carried the ball 17 times for 76 yards (4.5 ypc).  The Panthers completed 17 of 31 passes for 128 net yards passing.

Could this be the dawn of a new era of the Romo Empire?

The Reign of Romo!

Yes Cowboy Nation we finally have a leader! Tonight I believe that we we’re witnesses to the beginning of something special in Tony Romo! He is everything that Drew Scarecrow is not, he’s young, fast, instinctive, and about all he’s brave.Tonight he created ways to be successful like running the ball on third down two or three times to make first downs and scrambling out of a collapsed pocket to find T.O., Terry Glenn, or Jason Witten for a first down or tounch down time and again. And the Tuna was so pleased that he was handing of kisses to T.O.!Anyway Cowboy Nation I know that it would be premature to start saying I told you so,but I do believe that this just might be to beginning of something special. John Madden said it best tonight on NBC,”some people have “it”, and Tony has it! Enough said!

Well written blog!

Cowboys by the numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 26 October 2006 at 5:23 pm

The Cowboys are scoring alot of points this season as they are averaging 28.2 points per game.  The running game has been solid for the Cowboys,  rolling up 138.0 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.  The passing game has been ok too, averaging 218.5 net yards passing per game and completing 54.1% of their attempts.

The defense has been decent this season, but they allow 21.3 points per game.  The run defense has been stellar, allowing 81.7 yards rushing per game and 3.2 yards per carry.  The Cowboys pass defense has been a little below par, allowing 205.7 net yards passing per game and allowing the opposition to complete 56.3% of their passes.

Cowboys vs. Panthers

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 25 October 2006 at 3:34 pm

These two teams are both coming off of tough losses and need to rebound to get their season back on track.

The Cowboys will try to run the ball against the Panthers who are a little soft defending it (114.6 yards per game, 4.0 yards per carry).  That means plenty of work for Julius Jones (524 rushing yards) and Marion Barber (215 rushing yards).  When the Cowboys decide to pass, they better protect Tony Romo or Julius Peppers (8 sacks) will beat him up and force him to make mistakes.  The Cowboys do have a lot of weapons to attack the Panthers secondary (206.6 yards passing allowed).  Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens and Jason Witten could cause trouble for the Panthers, if the Cowboys can protect Romo….and that’s a huge if!

The Cowboys defense has been really tough this season allowing only 287.3 yards per game, but they were exposed Monday night against the Giants.  The Cowboys safeties are slow with help over the top and Steve Smith could have a huge football game against them!  Also look for Keyshawn Johnson to be motivated to have a big game against the Tuna.  DeShaun Foster (490 yards rushing) is having a good season and will test the Cowboys front seven after what Tiki Barber and Brandon Jacobs did to them last week.

I have to side with the Panthers, because I have a feeling Tony Romo is gonna be under constant heat all game from the Panthers pass rush….and he will throw some passes up for grabs.

Cowboys panic at halftime, lose 36-22

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 24 October 2006 at 12:25 am

The Dallas Cowboys benched Drew Bledsoe at halftime and threw Tony Romo to the wolves in the second half.  This was a panic move by Bill Parcells.  Bledsoe completed 7 of 12 passes for 111 yards and an INT.  Tony Romo was running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.  He looked like an un-prepared rookie….which he essentially is.  Romo completed 14 of 25 passes for 227 yards with 2 TDs and 3 INT!  One of Romo’s INTs was a back-breaker that was returned 96 yards for a TD by rookie strong safety Kevin Dockery…..which pretty much ended the game.  Romo threw a couple of nice passes, but he looked shaky out there.  Julius Jones just couldn’t get much going against the Giants defense, carrying the ball 13 times for 30 yards (2.3 ypc).  Marion Barber carried the ball 6 times for 29 yards (4.8 ypc).  Terrell Owens caught 6 passes for 98 yards and a TD.  TE Jason Witten caught 4 passes for 72 yards.  WR Patrick Crayton caught 3 passes for 69 yards and a TD.

The Cowboys defense didn’t play very well at all.  The Giants manhandled the Cowboys on the ground, carrying the ball 39 times for 155 yards (4.0 ypc).  The Giants only completed 12 of 26 passes for 173 net yards thru the air.

The Cowboys better pick a QB and stick with him.  If they want to compete for the playoffs…..it should be Bledsoe.

HOW LONG UNTIL WE SHOOT THIS DEAD HORSE!

Blogged under General Cowboys Talk by david morris on Monday 23 October 2006 at 11:02 pm

I know all of you Bledsoe lovers are going to say what happen to me last week when we beat tha lowly Houston Texans and why didn’t I have anything to say then. Well I’ll tell you, we did what we were suspose to do,beat a team that we should have beaten! But my dilema is that we can’t win the tough games! Not only do we need to get rid of Drew Scarecrow, but that pop warner o-line needs to go too! We finally wised up and put Romo in the game and almost instantly thing began to change! Sure he made a few mistakes, but we can live with him making a few as long as we know that it’s going to get better and trust me its better already! And as for our defense, what can you say about a team that is placed in such a demanding position. If you were on the field 85% of the game you’d get beat too because of fatigue! And finally, one horse is dead(Bledsoe), now if we can get us a new o-line and get rid of these sorry ass bums called an o-line???!!?? then just maybe we can salvage our season, if not lets rebuild for next year.Better yet I just saw the interception that Romo  just threw, game over!!!Cowboy faithful lets stick this thing out ,we’ve been here before so here we go again but we can get through this if we stick together, so to hell with Bledsoe, and the o-line and lets get behind the youngster and see what happens. Also to all of you T.O. haters, yeah he dropped a few balls , but even Jordan missed a few game winners. The test of greatness is being able to come back the next pass and make a play which T.O. did more than once tonight so enough said about him.  Peace and Love from Cowboy Dave.

Cowboys vs. Giants

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 19 October 2006 at 12:24 am

This is a huge game for both teams.  The Giants and the Cowboys are both 3-2 and tied for second place in the NFC East.  Every game in this division is pivotal, as all four teams are good.  Both teams are coming off of impressive victories.

The Giants would like to run the football against the Cowboys, but that is easier said than done.  The Cowboys only allow 67.0 yards rushing per game and 2.9 yards per carry.  The Giants will still try, and why not when you have Tiki Barber (533 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (177 yards rushing).  The Cowboys allow 212.2 yards passing per game, so look for Eli Manning to aggressively attack them through the air.  Manning likes to spread the ball around to Amani Toomer, Jeremy Shockey, Plaxico Burress and Tiki Barber and that puts alot of pressure on the defense.

When the Cowboys have the ball, look for them to establish their running game early with Julius Jones (494 yards rushing) and Marion Barber (186 yards rushing).  Soon as that is accomplished Drew Bledsoe will take to the air.  The Giants need to mount a good pass rush on the Cowboys and try to rattle Bledsoe into making some mistakes.  Bledsoe has already thrown 7 interceptions this season.  WRs Terry Glenn (25 rec, 337 yards) and Terrell Owens (22 rec, 277 yards) will cause all kinds of problems for the Giants secondary if Bledsoe is given time to throw.  The safeties must always be on alert over the middle, because Jason Witten is one of the best tight-ends in the NFL, and Bledsoe likes to get him the ball too.

This should be a great football game on Monday night.  It will come down to who protects the ball better……Eli Manning or Drew Bledsoe.

Back-up defensive end Jason Hatcher is out indefinately with an injured ankle.  Kenyon Coleman will take his place starting this week against the Giants.

Two overlooked players playing well for Cowboys defense

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 17 October 2006 at 4:06 pm

OLB/DE Greg Ellis has played very well this season and has 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks.  Second year OLB DeMarcus Ware has played well also and has 17 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery so far this season.  These two guys are overlooked alot by teams because the Cowboys have flashier players on defense.  But without these two guys, the defense wouldn’t be nearly as dominant as it has been.
