If Drew Bledsoe stays healthy the Cowboys will make the playoffs this season, but if he gets hurt they will be picking very high in next April’s draft. When you think of Bledsoe many things come to mind. Bledsoe is like a statue in the pocket, but if you give him time he’ll carve you up like a surgeon. Last season Bledsoe made a good comeback after two poor seasons in Buffalo. Bledsoe threw for 3,639 yards with 23 TD passes and 17 interceptions for an 83.7 QB rating. It’s remarkable to look at the career numbers for Bledsoe as he is moving up the charts in NFL history. Bledsoe is currently #13 all-time in TD passes with 244 and if he stays healthy he’ll pass up Boomer Esiason, Dan Fouts, Sonny Jurgensen and Dave Krieg which is an impressive achievement. Bledsoe is #7 all-time in passing yards with 43,447 and will most likely be #6 when the season ends (passing Vinny Testaverde). Bledsoe has completed 3,749 passes which is good for #5 on the all-time list and could pass Warren Moon as he needs 240 to achieve that goal. Bledsoe still has the skills and with Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn to throw to he should put up good numbers this season. Bledsoe was sacked 49 times last year (451 in his career), so the Cowboys need to clean that up.
Tony Romo would be the back-up QB right now, and that is not a good thing for the Cowboys. Romo in four years has appeared in 22 games, but all of them as the holder on kicks. He doesn’t even have one yard passing in his career. He looked good last pre-season, but alot of players look like heroes in August. The Cowboys will be in deep doo-doo if anything happens to Bledsoe.
Drew Henson is probably #3. He had a good season in NFL Europe, but that’s like saying Elizabeth Berkeley was good in “Showgirls”. Henson has played in seven games in the NFL (1 start) and completed 55.6 % of his passes for 78 yards. Those numbers are downright scary and I don’t think the Tuna has much faith in him as a QB.
